Delayed gratification

The ‘Marshmallow test’ has repeatedly shown a very strong correlation between success in life and an ability to delay immediate gratification. It’s never too late for anyone to learn how to improve on this as it’s often just a case of employing the right coping strategies. Some of the kids here found that closing their eyes or kicking the table helped them in this particular situation.

However, when it comes to making lifestyle changes involving fitness and diet, some of the following coping strategies should be more effective: making a decision about what you want and putting it in writing, knowing what is important to you, having a plan to help you stay focused on your goals, prioritizing, and rewarding yourself for the short-term goals you achieve along the way to achieving your long term goals.
